Genuine Guide Gear creates backcountry equipment for guides and avalanche professionals who make the mountains their office. Their trusted reputation of work-grade reliability and ingenuity is the reason why we picked G3 to supply our Burton splitboard skins. They are, hands-down, without question, the best. Plus they’re Canadian, which is pretty cool.
CARE
Your skin glue is sacred—keep it clean and free from pine needles, road grime, dust, dog hair, fabric lint, and trail mix. Never set your skins, glue side down, in the snow, in the parking lot or on the 70s shag carpet of your living room.
When removing skins on the mountain, a good tip is to peel first from the tail, then fold each skin against itself at the half-lengthwise mark, sticking glue side to glue side and creating an adhesive sandwich. Roll or fold for stowage.
Hang or air-dry your skins after each day of riding. A good rule of thumb is to hang your skins before you crack a beer. Pulling them from your pack or board should be the first thing you do at home or in the hut, because wet or frozen skins lose all grip. Using skin wax on the plush side in spring conditions prevents them from sopping up too much moisture.
Do not expose skins to sources of high heat like fires and stoves. If hanging them in a mountain hut or a dirtbag crash pad, hang them carefully and securely, so that other items like wool socks or bearded dreadies do not come into contact with the glue.
