CMH is the world leader in heli-skiing. As part of our ongoing relationship with CMH, our shop was tasked with building long-form SEO ecommerce content that both increased the SEO rank of their area pages yet also provided a reader service tool of differentiating 12 different offerings through a creative expression of each area’s deeply ingrained character. We conducted an extensive research project, identifying differentiating aspects of terrain, culture and lodge life—brainstormed a travel guide framework then crafted them up into compelling long form pieces that hit SEO target words. The result was 8,000 words of high-ranking, highly engaging content that both served a purpose and sold more trips to paradise.
Check out the site.Overview: Formerly known as CMH K2 Rotor Lodge, our Kootenay operation lives up to the legendary ski reputation of its namesake region in interior BC. Within close proximity to Valhalla Provincial Park and sitting on the shores of Upper Arrow Lake—an extension of the Columbia River—our CMH Kootenay Lodge is centrally located in a region famous for cat ski operations, heli-skiing tenures, high volumes of low density snow and an alternative, maverick, ski-bum streak that has created some of the most culturally distinct and creatively influenced mountain town cultures in the world.
The nearby city of Nelson, BC with its preserved Victorian-era downtown is the unofficial (or at least spiritual) capital, of the West Kootenays. The thriving city is famous not only as home base for many professional mountain athletes and headquarters of Kootenay Mountain Culture magazine, but also as an epicenter of mechanized ski culture with fly-in backcountry touring lodges, famous cat-skiing operations and heli-skiing tenures proliferating in the surrounding regions and ranges. However, we think our West Kootenay location beats then all with a perfect mix of small village, lakeside location and featured trees-to-alpine terrain that must be skied to be believed.
We all hold a special place in our heart for the Bugaboos. The reason it strikes an emotional chord is that this is the hallowed ground where heli-skiing was born. From its humble roots as a former logging camp, the luxury backcountry lodge our founder constructed—and mountain vision he realized—in the Bugaboos, Canada became the genesis of an entire heli skiing industry as well a global family of CMH guests who have been drawn back for five decades to the place where it all began.
Aesthically powerful and steeped in history, CMH Bugaboos is also a longtime favorite due to its wide variety of heliskiing terrain that ranges from introductory to advanced. Heli skiing in the Bugaboo Mountains defies classification, mainly since the area is renown as the most all-around-skiing operation at CMH and one that easily caters its program to everybody and anybody who has an interest in, or passion for, heli-skiing. The Bugaboos welcomes guests of all motivations to see and ski for themselves.
Shrouded in myth and barstool legend, the Monashees resonate with powder skiers as the worldwide mecca of tree skiing. The reason is a steep-and-deep mix of terrain and snowpack that is found few other places on earth. Steep-sided valleys, a rare inland temperate rainforest and an intermountain climate that combines Pacific fire-hose volume with light, dry density deliver the holy trinity for diehard tree skiers. Those who know make their annual pilgrimages to CMH Monashees from early season to late and are rarely disappointed—although their legs might cry out for a rest.
What more can we say about the Monashees—other than it is the place to be if you want to experience what BC tree skiing is all about. It’s a special place in a special piece of terrain in the heart of heliskiing that our founder had the vision and wisdom to pioneer. Generations later it still draws skiers seeking the deepest days of their lives to a location north of Revelstoke, BC to see what the mountains will deliver. If you don’t believe, come see for yourself this winter.
Steeped in lore and legend, the Bobbie Burns is famous for its lightning fast pace and focused, vertical efficiency. One of the original heli skiing lodges of BC, landing at the Burns is like setting foot on
hallowed ground for type-A heli skiers. Located within quick striking distance of vast Selkirk and Purcell mountain range tenures, few places on earth are as ideal a venue for logging maximum vertical footage as this CMH original.
While the program is fast and focused, the location of the CMH Bobbie Burns Lodge evokes the feel of a true wilderness retreat. Tucked into a remote mountain valley with few signs of humanity, the decompression of an isolated lodge atmosphere is the ideal counterpoint to going fast and hard during the intense heli ski days. And, for many, earning barstool bragging rights inside the Burns is a rite of passage to be celebrated. Even our guides will admit you’re a bit of a badass if you ski the Burns.
Famous for its pro-stock features and its fun-loving atmosphere, CMH Galena is the special zone to hit when your skills are sharp and your skiing is strong. While other CMH areas like Gothics and Monashees are stacked with challenging lines, the wicked skiing and riding terrain at Galena exists on a higher plane—which is truly saying something at CMH. Yet rather than feeling like an exclusive club, the cozy rustic charm and relaxed, easy-going atmosphere makes Galena an easy place to land.
Beginner ski trips rarely start in the Selkirks, but for guests seeking out an expert-level rotation few places rival CMH Galena Lodge for its advanced skiing and advanced snowboarding terrain. Not too far from two international airports, we suggest you arrive in the Galena white room with fat skis or pow boards designed to tackle deep powder terrain and sustained steep lines. This freeride paradise stands alone as the premier Canadian heli skiing resort and one that is globally known for deep powder and fully featured terrain. When you are ready for the challenge, CMH Galena is waiting for you.
