After the stoke about the Foursquare and Blend books, Program Creative Director Evan Rose signed me up to write the entire 2010 Forum book. Drawing on the influential role Forum played in snowboarding, I penned the intro, updated the voice and pithed their new technology with humor and knowledge. The printed book was a thick, graphic masterpiece and I was proud to see my words at the center of the project.

Forum has always been at the forefront. Back when big brands were pushing step-ins and going head-to-head in pipe comps, the original eight took snowboarding in a different direction. Segment by segment, the Forum crew redefined style with an urban influence and a team mentality. Few saw it coming, but snowboarding transitioned from a skiing’s stepchild into a force of its own. A dominating roster and a strong conviction make Forum the leader in this realm—and, rocking a Forum was a statement that meant being part of this tight crew. An uprising was on, but without our foundation and this vision, the way we ride might be a lot less rad.
That was then and this is now. With rail jams, booter sessions and video parts upping the ante, progression is impressive to watch. But now every company is on board and flexing their connection to core. That’s cool with us, since we are still Forum and still focused on what will come next. To spark the new revolution we’ve built a team that represents the top tier of a new guard and backed them with visionary designers building premium product. This crew is pushing the next switch but letting their shots, parts and style make the statement. Which, as we sit back and see it all shift again, seems to us like true Forum.
Sick days always start early and end late. After loading up at the opening bell, the race will be on for fresh lines and fresh landings. Features will be hit hard when lineups clear and shots will be set up when windows open. As lifts shut down, a speed run or a jib line will bring it all back to the base, where the tailgating will start. The crew will keep it rolling from village circuit to condo party to backwoods bonfire. Poaching a hot tub or paying the tab might be in the cards when it officially shuts down. But, it will be on again at dawn, since sleep is for summer and there is snow outside.
This attitude of raging hard from open to close has defined Special Blend for over a decade. More than just slapping a die-cut on the truck and claiming allegiance, Blend is an affiliation of riders who drop in rather than back out. From pro shreds to rippers from the smallest regional hill, this commitment to charge at full speed is what makes every Blend rider part of the same crew. This style is visible in every local zone and this reputation—earned with an impressive record of sick days, late nights and insane stories—is why Special Blend remains a respected name in every raging scene.
